A password manager solves the real problem: every account gets a different long password, because you are no longer the one remembering them. Reused passwords are how one unrelated site's breach becomes your problem everywhere.

But be clear on what a saved password is. It is a convenience layer that fills a credential into a field, not protection of the account behind it.

  • A saved password is only as protected as the Mac and Apple Account holding it. A machine left open is a filled login form.
